A letter from Snow White to Mr. Steve Jobs

　　Dear Sir,

　　You might know who I am, and where I come from.

　　Hundreds of years ago, I was created by a pen of love and dream. Just like every common girl, I was longing for a happy life, but it turned out that I suffered a lot from it, almost meeting my death. However, love brought me to life again, offering me an opportunity to experience the simple, sincere beauty of this world.

　　Every time I recall the attractively red apple that nearly put me to death, I cannot help trembling. For when poison is overlaid with gorgeous semblance, kind-hearted people are fascinated with its glamorous looks, but some innocent people are hurt by its venom.

　　You are, as it were, the most celebrated Apple Magician in the world. The Apple Inc under your leadership has created the apple series products known as dream products, which are highly praised and welcomed by global customers. Indeed, I have seen smiles of satisfaction of the users; and their smiles must also make you smile with the pride of a magician that is content with his own work.

　　However, when I have a close look at Chinese plants and workers that produce the dream products, I see nothing but haze enveloping them. Young as they are, those workers have fallen ill owing to harsh work conditions. Some of them become sluggish like the aged, and cannot live a youthful life even in their prime years. And some people even have to lie in bed, waiting for life to throw glimmers on them. And in those manufacturing plants, which are your apple orchard, the environment is struggling for breath, and telling her afflictions.

　　Perhaps all these sufferings are not known to you. When you joyfully see the sales of your company steadily increasing, has it ever occurred to you that behind these wondrous figures, many people in a country far from yours are bearing unbearable hardships just to get a meager income? When you are looking at the latest products, has it ever dawned on you that while producing these compact, exquisite digital products, the environment on the other hemisphere has to endure a mass of poisons so that those urgent bulk orders can be accomplished?

　　Or perhaps you are too confident in your magic to believe your own slips. Admittedly, you have drawn a blueprint of corporate environmental responsibilities for Apple Inc. However, you seem to forget that without concrete effort and careful oversight, a blueprint will always remain on the paper. Empty promises can only bring those innocent people disasters, destroying their dreams and depriving them of their happy life that they are entitled to. And indifference to harsh realities can only accelerate the disillusionment of all magic.

　　Please go to those Chinese manufacturing plants of Apple Inc, and visit those sick workers by yourself. Please go to China and have a look at the damaged environment. Please look at those broken dreams, dreams that are destroyed by hands creating dreams.
